The advent of big data, advanced data analytics, customer data platforms and data-driven marketing tools has changed the way companies across the world are doing business. And to keep up with these new technologies, companies are looking for whole new skill sets when making hiring decisions. A 2011 McKinsey report estimated that by 2018, about 140,000 to 190,000 big data jobs will be unfilled due to a lack of applicants with relevant skills. Specialized roles like Chief Data Officer, Chief Digital Officer, Data Scientist, Data Visualizer and Data Architect are becoming more common.
While educational institutions were slow to catch up, many schools have started reinventing their curriculum by introducing new courses in data science, analytics, marketing and data mining. This opens up a huge opportunity for job seekers to start acquiring the right skills to help them snag one of thousands of new jobs opening up in a data-driven marketplace.
