Thank You! We’re Flattered.

Since its inception, Umbel has been committed to helping businesses take ownership of and protect their data rights.

Most people have an understanding, albeit vague, about their data footprint, how companies are collecting their data, how companies are using their data, and even how their data can be exploited. Just this week, the White House issued a 76-page long report on the importance of big data transparency and security — pledging to protect a citizen’s identity from data misuse and even discrimination.

The big data industry is constantly revolutionizing in front of us, but Umbel’s core mission will remain the same. We collect first-party data, store it, secure it, visualize it, make sure it has valuable actions attached to it, but most importantly, we do it all while maintaining user trust and ultimately, user decision.

We execute our vision from Austin, Texas, where we live, work, play and learn with the help of a tech community few can rival. The dedication, the drive, the talent, the morale are all here in Austin, embodied in the people who aggregate in the capital city.

So last night, when Umbel was invited as a finalist at the Austin Chamber of Commerce A-List of the Hottest Startups Awards, we were honored to be part of such a commited crowd.

With over 250 nominees in attendance, and amongst the likes of Austin’s mayor Lee Leffingwell, Bazaarvoice’s Gene Austin and Floodgate’s Mike Mayors (who gave a heartfelt nod to the influence of Austin start-ups on his career), we are excited to announce that Umbel received the award for hottest growth startup by the Chamber of Commerce and SXSW! Communication Manager Samantha Meckler accepted the award on behalf of Umbel, and thanked the Austin community for their kindness and support as Umbel takes flight.

“Umbel’s mission is to make data the most valuable asset you own,” said Meckler.

A huge congratulations to the other well-deserved winners of the night: Datical, Embrace, Compare Metrics, Trust Radius, TeVido BioDevices, Spot On Sciences, Square Root, Set.fm, Turn Key, Chaotic Moon and Novati.

We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Umbel, for the Austin start-up scene, and for Austin in general, and we are proud to be part of such an inspiring and innovative community. Onward!
