How to Make the Most of IRCE 2015

The intersection between data, retail, e-commerce and customer insights is deeply fascinating. And only a select few retailers are doing it right.

On June 2-5, 2015, the world’s largest e-commerce event will take place in Chicago at Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition (IRCE). With over 10,000 attendees and 500 exhibitors, we’ve put together a quick survival guide on how you can make the most of your time at the conference.

Attend panels that you know nothing about

While it’s important to further your knowledge in a track that you’re already familiar with, one of the best things you can do is attend a few sessions where you know very little about the topic. This will give you a broader context of the retail and e-tail space and potentially spark creativity within your own area of expertise. Some panels that we’re particularly excited about are Jason Goldberger’s (President of Target.com and Mobile) Keynote Address and the panel Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Everything Shoppers Want—This Year.

Interact with other attendees using #IRCE2015

Three days just isn’t enough to network and have meaningful conversations that will impact the future of your business. So why not start the conversation in advance on Twitter using the #IRCE2015 hashtag and connect with some of the people you will want to meet in person? To make it easier on you, we have compiled a list of people who are actively using the event hashtag, so go in and follow any of the attendees and/or speakers.

Browse the booths in the Exhibit Hall

It’s probably safe to admit that most people browse the exhibit hall to take home a new yo-yo for their child or to enter a drone giveaway. But aside from free schwag, you might learn about a few game-changing tools that transform the way you do business. A lot of the companies will have demos, which will allow you to try before you buy (including us). Stop by the Umbel booth at #1976 to learn about how you can unify your customer data to enhance the retail experience, target loyal customers and better understand brand affinities.

Take advantage of the brilliant Chicago summer weather

Walk over to the bean at the famous Millennium Park or grab a slice of deep dish pizza from Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria or better yet, hop on a boat for one of their architectural tours. And this goes without saying to the IRCE crowd – window shop on the famous Michigan Avenue and stay in a retail state of mind.
