Who Is Attending #SXSW2015?

Over the course of ten action packed days from March 13 – 22, technology fanatics, music lovers and film enthusiasts congregate in Austin, TX to showcase their passion and to network with other like-minded individuals.

Recognized as the platform where Twitter gained traction, Edward Snowden made an unexpected appearance via videoconference and Daft Punk is always baselessly rumoured to be playing around town, SXSW 2015 will draw in over 72,000 attendees from all over the world.

But who are these people and what do they like?

Umbel’s Customer Data Platform has leveraged the social identities of over 7,000 people (with their permission) who have RSVPed to the SXSW 2015 #Umbelmania party as our sample set. So what did we conclude after analyzing the SXSW crowd?

Well, let’s just say this is going to be a fun SXSW crowd.

Males are still dominating the tech industry, but not by much. Women are leaning in and making their presence known at this year’s SXSW. And whoever said SXSW is a spring break for adults isn’t too far off the mark, with the average age being 36. This event draws in a mature work hard, play hard crowd who are largely single and have an income of over $84K.

When it comes to technology, don’t be surprised if you find coffee shops and the Austin Convention Center brimming with Macs lovers. And what’s going on behind those computer screens? Attendees are likely leveraging Chrome as their browser of choice.

You can expect a flurry of tweets and #SXSW2015 to be a trending topic with this Social Media savvy crowd. The top skill of SXSW 2015 party attendees is Social Media, in addition to things like Marketing, Advertising, and Customer Service.

That’s what she said. You might hear this reference quite a bit given that The Office is the TV show of choice.
