Umbel Completes SOC 2 Type 2 Examination in Compliance with AICPA Standard Principles

Leading software platform for sports and entertainment companies further safeguards customer data with commitment to highest security standards

AUSTIN, TX – October 24, 2017 – Umbel, the leading first-party data management platform for sports and entertainment organizations, announced it has officially been validated by the Service Organization Control (SOC) 2 Type 2 audit. Conducted by Schellman & Company, LLC, an independent CPA firm, Umbel has met the requirements of the SOC 2 Type 2 examination, formally known as the Report on Controls at a Service Organization Relevant to Security, Availability, Processing, Integrity, Confidentiality, or Privacy.

Umbel volunteered to be evaluated on the “Security” principle in order to give its customers complete confidence in the company’s attention to the security of all audience data. This is an important step for the company, as it makes strides to have its software-as-a-service platform covered by the most up-to-date compliance regulations; especially in light of recent data breaches occurring at major technology companies.

This examination comes ahead of Umbel’s GDPR readiness assessment, which Schellmann was hired to conduct. GDPR, or the General Data Protection Regulation, is the EU’s new wide-ranging privacy and data protection regulation, going into effect in May 2018. Companies processing data of EU residents will have to follow stringent guidelines or face severe fines when GDPR goes into effect.
