Austin-Based Data-Focused Business Leases 20,000-Square-Foot Office Space From athenahealth; Significantly Adds to High-Tech Presence in Seaholm District; Umbel to Double Employee Base in 2015
AUSTIN, TX–Jun 10, 2015 – Umbel, a leading customer data platform based in Austin, announced today its sublease of a 20,000-square-foot creative office space in the iconic Seaholm Power Plant from athenahealth, a leading provider of cloud-based services and mobile applications for medical groups and health systems. Projected to double its employee base within the year, Umbel will continue to expand its presence in the local Austin marketplace with the relocation of its downtown headquarters.
Umbel joins athenahealth, who currently leases over 103,000-square-feet of open, creative office space within the Seaholm Power Plant. After completing an extensive restoration and revitalization of the site’s four floors, athenahealth is enabling a tremendous opportunity for a locally-rooted entrepreneurial organization to access the former industrial site.
The addition of Umbel to the Seaholm District complements the expansion of nationally reaching technology leaders, such as Google, Under Armour’s Connected Fitness (formerly MapMyFitness), and athenahealth. The quickly developing technology hub will further enhance the appeal of the Seaholm District, offering high-paying and desirable employment opportunities to residents throughout the District and city of Austin.

The Seaholm Power Plant is the foundation of the larger Seaholm redevelopment, which includes a mixed-use, urban community center, featuring 1.5 acres of public open space and plaza; the Seaholm Residences, a 30-story, 280-unit residential tower; and a two-story, 66,000-square-foot modern glass and steel low-rise building with 33,000 square feet of office space currently used by Under Armour’s Connected Fitness, and 33,000 square feet of retail space, including Trader Joe’s market.
The Seaholm Power Plant redevelopment is located on the southwestern edge of downtown Austin, bounded by Cesar Chavez Street, West Avenue, West 3rd Street, Walter Seaholm Drive, and the A&NW rail line.
